This print never worked the way I would have liked. It is entitled Cerimony Performed With Bamboo Blades and is an abstract illustration influenced by the classic Japanese film Harakiri the situation is too complicated to explain. Sufice to say a young man is forced to comit sepiku with his own sword, the blades of which he has pawned to feed his family and which are now made of bamboo. I had wanted the white to be much brighter, making a contrast with the paper and red. As it is, the ink I used was not opaque enough and because of the paper (kitikata) it bleed a sort of halo of oil, which can be seen on the hand. In retrospect I probably should have printed dark onto white paper instead of white onto dark.
